335d panic

Drove my new (to me) car to Newquay today for a surf - suddenly heard this scraping noise that sounded like the brakes. It got rapidly worse so I stopped and had a check of the wheels and disks - nothing obvious. So reversed and heard a horrible graunching/squeaking noise. Thought that's it - 4th day of ownership and I need to get BMW Assist out - so moved it to a safer spot, the noise went and all is fine.

Think I must have had something jump into the caliper (a little stone or similar) that then fell out. Phew!!!

Tsk tsk! Not that daft - I use an Aquapac to put my key in (BMW removable key section is VERY handy for this!) - totally waterproof - stick it under my wetsuit. Been using them for many years without issues.

Surf was awesome (duuude)! E91 makes a pretty good surfmobile.

Weather and surf were amazing. The crowds were silly but luckily it was big enough surf to keep 99% of people well out of the way!

Surface dressing of rural roads is a killer on brakes. The hardstone that is spread onto the hot tar then swept up has a nasty habit of getting jammed into the brakes.

As you did, by stopping ASAP and reversing was the best (and only) thing you could have done.

No harm done, apart from perhaps a light scoring of the brake disc.

Mind you, it could have got caught on the backside of the disc, which you wouldn't see.
