Sheesh. Seems like these things are happening more often.

not surprised.

even though 90% of the population may now be watching their speeds now, in reality, how many cops are out there ensuring compliance? are they really hanging around at every intersection, or at each nook on the highway looking for cars travelling 50+ ? the remaining 10% are probably figuring 'hey, what are the chances?'

all in all though -- draconian or not, i think the deterrent is working ...

Am i the only one that thinks drunk driving is more dangerous? It seems so, since all you get is a 24h suspension for being a drunk ass, lane swerving douchebag behind the wheel.

IMHO they should do the same thing to drunks because if you look at the stats, drunk driving is the leading cause of accidents and death behind the wheel, not street racing, but i guess with all the hype surrounding street racing, it gets the cops more media publicity....Street racing makes headlines, arresting drunk drivers doesn’t.

+100

Driver that is drunk or on drugs is much more dangerous on the road.

Also, I don't think mild speeding (around 20km/h over the limit) will lead to any higher risk of accident at all. It will lead to smoother traffic flow, and everyone will be happy and driving calmly. If you drive slowly, you will just frustrate the hell out of the drivers behind you, and in turn cause them to drive aggressively and dangerously.

driving in a residential area 160Km/h over is just wrong.

I hate when cops catch you in a 70 zone doing 90 or 100, which isn't a zone where you would find 7 year old kids playing or walking across the road at 11pm...

Ummm I may be wrong, but 24hr suspension is just for having a few drinks in you...not at all drunk with .05 in your system. Driving drunk is actually a criminal offence. You go to jail on the spot, fingerprinted...the whole bit. My friend got DUI last year.

On a side note, I understand what ur saying and i do agree that this 50km law is not really doing much to prevent accidents and shit

Correct. A drunk driver can be charged with a criminal offence, however, with the court system jam packed and the general lack of police manpower on the streets, it rarely gets to that point.

In B.C. A little less than 60% of arrested drunk drivers ever get charged under the criminal code, and of the ones charged, more than 15% get off on technicalities.

Without getting into details, about a year ago I had an acquaintance that was killed by a drunk driver who fled the scene but was later caught. As of today the culprit is still a free man awaiting a trial that keeps getting pushed to a later date...That’s the justice system for ya.
