RFT Bubble / replacement questions
I have a bubble in one of front RFT. No clue where it came from. I haven't hit anything violent recently. I get the god aweful sound everytime I hit a pothole but from what I've read so does everyone else...
I know with a bubble there's a potential for a blow out so it's being replaced. I don't want to know what a blowout feels like in a curve at high speeds. Here's my dilema, I have a set of replacement RFT which I was planning on using next summer. Found them on this board, brand new take-offs for $850 CDN My fronts have 5/32 and rears have 4/32. Are tires really ready to be thown out at 4/32? Don't these come with 8/32 brand new. I doubt I have more than 16,000km (10,000 miles) on these. |

If it is bubbled then it is not safe and need to be changed. Since you have a set in waiting I would change out the fronts and keep the good front you have left as a backup for when you have another problem.
I have made the decision to dump RFTs as soon as they are worn out. I don't see any real upside and a lot of downsides like expense, short life, issues like yours with sidewall, poor ride etc. Regardless you really need to change the tire with the bubble. |

I got the whole set replaced and kept all 3 tires as spares.
The bubble was pretty small (1 inch across) and would barely stick out (Maybe 1/4 of a inch). But the tear inside was at least 2 inches! |
