Waiting for Dealer to Cut me a check for my trade

When I got my 335i last week I traded in my used car to the dealer. Part of the price of the car was used for cap reduction and to pay the upfront costs. The remainder (Over $2,600) is to be paid to me as a check. They told me on the 29th when I signed the paperwork and handed them my title that they needed a few days for the title to clear before they cut me my check. It's now Wednesday and I still have not heard anything. How long does this usually take? I'm in NJ.

Thx!

I did the exact same thing, I picked up my 335 this Saturday the 2nd and then picked up the cheque today, 3 days later. I would give them a call.

Hehehe...I just called the dealer and found our that the finance manager that I had been working with. (The guy that was trying to screw me on the deal) is "no longer with the company"

My SA knew about this check too, but he is in "Driver Training"??? today.

I'm waiting to hear back from the general manager of the stealership.

I'd call them. It's been 4 business days going on the 5th, it's a little long but there could be other circumstances going on in the background. Make them get you a status.

That's funny. The same thing happened to me when I bought my E90.

It is a very challenging position in most dealerships. Think about it. You have people that are already struggling to afford a car get that are quoted a certain price per month by the salesguy - typically a price per month that is more than they can afford or more than they intended to spend in the first place. Then as the finance person, you are under pressure to try to sell them options and extras that will rack up another several hundred per month.

I know I put some undue stress on one of these people... I was buying another vehicle and was in the finance office signing the papers. So the lady gives her pitch for some extended warranty, which seemed like a a decent deal, looked like it was $200. So I was like sure, I will pay for it now, and she looked confused and said I don't think we can do that. So I looked harder and it was apparent that the $200 was PER MONTH. So I sort of went off on her - they were selling a lame extended warranty for $12,000! I told her flat out... don't try to sell me anything else, this is the price I agreed to for the truck, that is what I am going to pay. I am not buying any more warranties, scotchgaurd, undercoating, etc, just fill out the paperwork. I was fuming to be honest at the dishonesty of how they try to sell the warranty - these little flip cards, and hiding the fact that it was per month, and the idea that they are selling it for $12k! The dishonesty of it all was entirely off putting.

I seriously almost walked out, and if I didn't really want the vehicle, I would have. The girl was visibly shaken and had to go outside and smoke to calm down, and I think tried to get one of the other finance people to finish the deal.

After three separate people there ignored my calls all day I stopped in on my way home. I found the business manager and when he recognized me the look on his face was priceless. I asked him why he never returned my calls and his response was he never got them. He wrote down my name and phone number again and told me he would have the check ready by Friday.

What a tool.
