(newbie) Engine "tapping" noise under acceleration...

My first post, so apologies if this is in the wrong place.... I get a slight engine tapping noise under medium and hard acceleration, on my 2007 330d auto. Is this normal? Could it be a tappit? It goes beyond the slight diesel clatter (I have driven diesel cars for years, loving the low down torque). I have had the car 5 months, it has done some 33k miles. I enjoy the car very much, but it is not quite as fault free as my previous car, a VW Golf 2005 gt tdi, which I had from new.
