Orange LC pad turns gray with Menzerna IP...normal?
Is it normal for the pad to turn gray when using Menzerna IP? This happened two different times on two different cars after they were washed and clayed. Is this the IP reacting to heat (it is darker along the outer edges of the pad)? I am using a Flex XC 3401. I'm pleased with the results as the IP and Flex have removed the swirl marks present on both cars, but am I doing something incorrectly?
Can I use the orange-gray pad again? If so, how should it be cleaned? |

Yes, it is normal for a pad to turn the color of the polish (or the paint, in the case of a single stage paint). I mean, it's not like the whole pad turned gray, right? It's just polish caked in the pad? You need more than just one pad to do a car. When the pad starts getting too much product caked in it, switch to a new pad.
To clean it, there are products like Snappy Clean Pad Cleaning Powder (available at the online stores for detailers), or you can do what some of us do and just use Dawn dish detergent and wash the pads, rinse thoroughly, then spin them out to dry.
