Dude, no matter how good you or the person touching that up are .... it's ALWAYS going to be an eye sore. I wouldn't be able to deal with until I had the hood repainted etc.

$300-$400 to have her taken care of.

You'll have to get the whole hood painted. They will sand and then bondo that area, prime and then repsray the hood and then clear the whole thing. it would probably be more work to try to blend the area and just spray say 1 square foot, but regardless the whole hood has to be recleared. I would say plan on spending about $300 bucks

my suggetions

1 get some Tiag touch up paint

2.buff out the black scuffs

3.fill in the hole with the touch up paint

but iam not an expert at scratches down to the metal.if it was a clear coat /paint problem i could have helped you out a lil better
DO NOT DO THIS.

This is an insurance case and you will need the whole hood repainted, guranteed.. The hood is made of aluminium (aluminum but definatley not steel) It needs to be repaired properly by BMW or you will have this viśible in 2 years. I had something similar happen to my car and had insurance deal with it, claiming vandalism. Don't attempt to fix this yourself unless you know what you doing!

wow, painting the whole hood for $300? that's a bargain isnt' it? I might as well buy a new m3 type CF hood and paint it. Hmmm.

How much did they cover? Will it cause my insurance rate to go up? How much did BMW charge your insurance co?

Thanks for the input so far guys!

its not worth it to try and patch it.

The dent has to come out, then the damage filled up, and the paint the whole hood.

Anything diy will be a mistake in the long run, and you will never be happy with the result

Yes, I'm so anal that I'm sure I won't be happy with a patch. I want to see what the dealer will tell me on monday when I take it in.

BMW will outsource it anyways, go to a reputable shop.

Haha, i know, I guess I should have written, I wonder what they'll steal out of my wallet and then I'll decide whether or not to buy a new CF hood or not.

They do? I guess that makes sense. I wonder who they use in my area since they are the only bmw dealer in ~60 mi radius.

if its a repair and they dont have the facilitys for repainting then they will outsource yes.

But they will probably try to sell you an original hood painted from BMW germany and fit that.

In the end, if you choose to go with your insurance, weigh the amout of your insurance excess against the cost of the repair.

It may be easiest to get it repaired at a good bodyshop

I was hoping to avoid insurance since I don't know how that will affect my insurance rates. I guess depending on the cost, I might need to really find a good bodyshop who knows what they are doing. Thanks!

They quoted me $600 to redo the whole hood. My local BMW dealer does everything in house, he showed me pics of they setup where they paint and do all dent removal etc...

What do you guys think about the price? Is it worth mentioning to the insurance company? does it hurt me (will my rates increase?) if I call the insurance company to ask about it?

thanks again for all those who responded so far.

Sounds sensible enough

Repair of the hood takes time, plus materials. So 600 isnt unrealistic i think. In fact its not that bad at all considering what i make people pay over here..

The isurance issue depends on your excess.

You premium may increase if you dont have a fixed no claims . Otherwise it may increase EVEN if the 600 is completely paid by you out of the excess..

So its up to you to decide.
If you dont mention it to you insurance, there isnt ANYTHING wrong with that at all. The work will still be covered by a BMW warrenty , so any issues will be adressed without problem i would expect

Thanks Mallard! I guess I need to find out what type of insurance I have. Never filed a claim for anything so I have no clue what "fixed no claims" means. For $600, I'm very tempted to get a CF hood, just wondering what I will cost to paint a CF hood.

thats deep! definitely needs body work done or a whole new hood at that. I would not even want to try to touch that up unless the hood was smooth again. Dont get it half assed do it right!

Fixed no claims, means that the policy cost is set a little higher per anum, but there is an "insurance" against bonus loss because of a claim.

The CF hood normaly isnt painted. But you could paint it i suppose, theres no problem in prepping the surface for paint many paint there CF spoilers partially
