BlockbusterAU, No Ive got CCC Professional Navigation, But its running the original version and hasn't been updated. Im looking at purchasing a OPPS head and performing the update myself, But yeah new CCC units aren't cheap lol.

mark325, let me know once you've done the update. How is the engine? Has it been fixed?

There are so many emailing me about this i have to come up with something. By the way when you email, put in your user name as i can then work out who i am talking to, lol, james, long and pat are the main interest. Ok i updated an e65 today as it had the drive replaced, i did a v32 firmware update via a disk, and that worked fine with the latest nav disk, i'm doing a firmware on an x5 tomorrow as he wants to see if we can change to 2d perspective, the e60 i had in today had a split screen and i just enabled the 2d through the settings. Besides that i have a 335 in that we will look into to see what can be updated, but we may do an ipod as well. The CIC retro fit kit will be the next issue to overcome but i'll need a car for that.

The stupid car is back at BMW, First Sump gasket then Rear main. I have my doubts the sump gasket was leaking at all, But they thought it was after I told them its the rear main.

Idiots.

Andrew you using genuine Heads ?

The only reason Ive been taking my car back there is they have given me another 2 years warranty on the engine. But i think ill just do the work myself next time, then I know its right.

I think the v32 updates are for MKIV-based navigation systems right? I thought they don't work with the iDrive.

Yes i think you might be right, spoke to an electronics guy today and he said i may be incorrect in doing the firmware via disk. The optic fibre cars will definately need the OPPS head, no problems there, i just want to know that i will get the result you guys want.

I'm still curious about the fail-rate. So have you ever done any software updates to a car? If so, how many have failed?

100% Certain the Software cannot be updated on the CIC/CCC cars via disk, Must be done via OPPS (Optical)

I haven't done a nav upgrade on the later types myself, have for i pod intergration kits and of course dme, egs, all the other usual stuff, coding, programming, things fall over even doing simple stuff, i cleared a 760li Airbag fault code recently for a BMW repair shop and then the headlights went off, so i had to recode the headlight module and then it started working. We just have never had much interest in Nav, bluetooth, Audio upgrades, i guess it is just the market we attract, we do a lot more tuning, performance items to late cars but i see in car more and more lately, so my interest is sparked. I spoke with a BMW dealer about it and they want the customer to sign a disclaimer before doing the upgrade, so i guess thats sort of a clear sign of failure. I don't know everything, i'm first to admit it, but i try, I had an E90 in today, no instruments at all, i think someone tried an alarm..Fail...

Sounds scary Andrew, Only thing Ive done is fiddled with the coding, I haven't touched programming. Fiddling with coding options in CCC / Footwell module is fun haha.
