I removed asbestos for about 5 years. Hot, nasty, dangerous work. We were stripping live steam pipes in a crawl space under one of the Brigham and Women's Hospital buildings once. Floor to "ceiling" was about 3 feet with slightly more between the floor joists. The decontamination showers and air filtration machines (which kept negative pressure in the containment) were all at one end of this long crawlspace, so the air came in the showers and right out through the air machines. The rest of the crawlspace was well above 100F. Then the idiot running the job decided to strip all the pipes first and then use pressure washers to clean them. The place turned into an instant sauna.
There were several areas where a rack of steam pipes four or five wide ran across the room about 2-1/2 feet off the floor. The only way past was to lay on the floor and slide under them in the muck. If you touched one of the pipes, you got an instant 3rd degree burn. I was working along one wall and had to slide under these pipes. I got down in the muck and gave myself a good push, trying to slide all the way under them in one shot. The only thing in my way was a pile of leaves and trash that had blown in there. I figured I'd just blast right through it. But when I hit it, I stopped sliding. The pile was a massive cockroach nesting area. I suddenly had hundreds of cockroaches crawling all over me, including in my ears. I knew I couldn't stand up and I really couldn't move much to get them off me. I had to back my way out from under the pipes before I could start brushing the little bastages off me. That was the closest I ever came to quitting a job without having another lined up.

I like my job personally... I would say union worker at one of the big three would be pretty bad, cause now everyone is noticing how useless and overpaid you are.

I pick up a body part every night between 12:30 and 1:00am. Not that creepy unless your roommate walks in on you.

I'd say the opposite. I love my job, and make far more money than when I was in my old, miserable job.
