Personally, I would pay for it and be very specific and tell your SA to inform the tech not to reset the oil timer.

Good question, the only way to know for sure is ask your dealer.

very true, each dealer is independently owned so you just have to pick up da phone and give your SA a buzz and see what he/she says.

You should be getting it free in one year regardless of the mileage. They will also not reset it unless you are really near the end of the count down or past it.

The oil change is covered by the free-maintenance program. Don't pay a cent for it.

yep, like others said. in USA, we get free oil once a yr or when the car asks for it. and unless you lease the car, you shouldn't wait this long to get a break in oil change.

Many have said this, and I really want it to be true. But, I've asked several times for somebody to point to a BMW corporate statement saying that we get yearly oil changes under the maintenance plan -- nobody has come up with anything so far.

I'm looking for a TSB, a scan of a BMW flyer, a link to a specific page on the BMW web site. The best I've gotten is pointers to individual dealer's web sites, which of course does NOT mean that it is a BMW policy.

My dealer says: "not until the car says so".

So, I ask again: If anybody has anything indicating that this is BMW policy, please please post it for all of us!!

Thanks,
-Ben

Garage List
My dealer told me to bring mine in one year from date of purchase if the computer had not already indicated it was time. Maybe its a dealer by dealer policy. I would call other dealers and document what their policies are and go back to yours, if the others are offering one year service, with documentation.

Got my oil changed

I got my oil changed last week at BMW San Francisco. My reading says I still have 3300 miles to go but since it has been over a year since my last change, my SA went ahead with the oil change. He did not resest, so I will be going back in 3300 miles for another change.
