Lucky so & so

Was at Oulton Park yesterday attending the BMW Dealer Principal Conference.

New Products driven - 5 Series GT, X1
Current Products driven - M3 on the track

Plus saw some new products that I am not allowed to talk about in the open but my word, it made me glad that I work with BMW once again !

A good day had, and looking forward to the rest of 2009 & 2010 very much indeed.

BMW keep "inventing" niches - I'm slightly struggling to see the point in the 5 GT and the X1 just seems like an X3 with smaller engine options. Then the next X3 will be bigger - does that mean the next X5 will be the size of a Hummer?

I'm sure they are all good but do mystify me slightly.

Darren, spoke to a local dealer this morning who mentioned he's heading somewhere similar next week to do a similar 'jolly'. Was chatting about an X1 for the missus but the miserable sods are only selling them at list price - boo.

Tony mentioned on another thread somewhere that Sytner had bought a shed load of stock recently where good deals may be available - got an 123d M Sport coupes, 'hugh' spec, manual, bargain price knocking around?? I know, I don't ask for much

I'm sure the x1 is aimed at the Euro market and will sell well to the city folk who need 4wd most (not), but all these other big 4 doors like the 5GT and the Panamera etc are all for China / India / Eastern Europe where big and brash and 4 doors is GOOD.

+1 You need to also add the X6 - what is the point of that car / van / 4x4 thing ?

DP conferences can be rather yawn-tastic at times so although the driving bit was pretty good, the sit down bit can often require a fair bit of coffee to get through if you know what I mean!!!

Now that BMW is out of F1 it's time for them to make a "supercar". Something better than an R8 or Black series. Something special.
