I like the reverse camber a lot. My friend has a Never Summer with it and he lets me ride it. It's a little different at first but like you said, it does seem a lot more controlled.

I noticed that you have the Burton Cartels also. Looks like I need to look into those since everybody has them.

as a local ill attest to this. brighton is by far the most fun especially if you go back mountain. but that being said 90% of the time its packed. powder mountaing is really good and has alot less traffic. canyons has soo much terrain its easy to get lost but never really have the same line twice. park city is over rated!

i have these

with the old toe cup strap instead of the flat strap. the cartels are so loved because they are soooo comfortable and easy to ride with for hours and hours. and i like them because they are soft enough to respond easily and be really comfortable, but stable enough so that a small error doesnt fuck you over

i have the c60s on my uninc. they are rigid and keep your feet still while you are going crazy doing all mountain stuff. however, they arent the most cushy and comfy bindings...

Here are the mountains I have been to in utah in my favorite order

Alta (ski only)
Snowbird
Deer Valley (ski only)
Park City

I like to ski 5-6 days in a row and go all out on as many doubles as I can, so that is what my research has been based on.

At this point, the best bets seem to be:


Park City Mountain Resort because it's more or less the biggest mountain around and it is very very close. It seems to have a fair amount of difficult terrain. I'm going with a group, some less experienced than others, so I can see us skiing here for more than one day.

The Canyons Also very very close to Park City. Not nearly as large of a mountain, but the runs are known to be more difficult there.

Snowbasin Although it's 71 miles from Park City, it appears to be massive and have a very good amount of difficult runs/bowls.

Snowbird 38 miles from Park City. Probably one of the more famous mountains in Utah. Seems to have some really nice terrain, is large, and could be skii'ed more than one day based on size and proximity.

Solitude Although we probably will not go here because it is 40 miles from Park City and looks to be quite small, it does seem to have some pretty good terrain. Would definitely only spend a day here.

Brighton Known to be a great mountain, the problem is that it is 70 miles from Park City. For the one long commute of the trip, I'd prefer Snowbasin at this point.

I live in Salt Lake City, at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon. My wife happens to be an ER / ICU doc in the valley as well, so I have an interesting perspective on things here. On background, proior to moving to SLC, I'd held a season pass in CO for 7 years, skiing / riding Breck, Keystone, Vail, Beaver Creek, Copper, Purgatory....that's it I think.

Snow sucks at PC, period. You won't find many locals there. Night life is great, but total snow fall on any given powder day is half of Little Cottonwood Canyon, which holds Snowbird and Alta. Add to this that 2/3 of the ski accidents at the hospital come from Park City, and not many locals go there. It's gaper central. I've ridden there once, I doubt I'll ever go back. The double diamond runs were only tough because the snow cover sucked.

WAAAAAAY the hell north of town. Huge PITA to get there, not many people from the valley venture up there. However, they get a different storm track than the valley resorts, so some days we get skunked and they have feet of pow.

Great place to ride. Excellent terrain park, although the parks are not as good as Breck. A wide variety of terrain. I actually picked up a 10-pack of passes to Brighton for the season. In the summer it's only 15 minutes from Park City to Brighton. They're in the same valley. Shitty part is that road closes in the winter. So you have to go all the way around the mountain to get there. If the economy ever turns around, the road will likely be made a 4-season road.

From Park City to Solitude, Brighton, Alta and Snowbird, it's about 45+ minutes. I can say that because I live here, and I've made the drives. Party in PC, be sure to check out Scary-ho's (harry-o's) but ski in the Cottonwood Canyons. If you want to check out Brighton or Snowbird, drop me a PM, maybe I can meet up with you.

One other thing about UT - the snow is just drier here. My "powder" board in CO sinks like an anchor here, and I've lost 25 lbs too. It's very noticeable - UT really does have the best snow, and I was a real CO snob before moving here.

I've been to Aspen, Steamboat Springs, Vail, Winter Park, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, Sugar Mountain, Breckenridge, Snowmass, and Copper Mountain. I may be a little bias to other places, but Colorado has always done wonders with boarding and/or skiing. Out of the above, the best, hands down is Vail. Absolutely breathtaking if not stunning.

Interesting. I can't stand Vail. Too crowded, crappy snow, takes forever to get to the few good spots. I equate it to Park (sh)City.
