Maybe it's a nod to the adage that there is no fix as permanent as a temporary one, but I doubt it.

It's pretty safe to say that the holes cut on the mat are permanent!

A friend sent me that link. Is that solution for real? It looks like something The Onion would come up with. My wife has a 2009 Lexus AWD IS 250 that's affected by that recall. I can't believe they're going to use such a lame solution for Lexus.

I put the thick rubber mats (Weathertech) over the carpet mats. Both are held in place by the hooks and seem unlikely to come loose. Even if they come loose it seems unlikely that the pedal would get caught under the mats. Unlike the car in the accident, these mats are custom fit to the AWD IS 250 so they're not exceptionally long.

I think we are going to pass on this semi-permanent solution. My wife knows what to do in the unlikely event she gets a stuck accelerator.
