First Service

Hi,

It's been a while since I've posted here, but I'm hoping that e90post can show an old member some love.

I've done some searches but can't find what I'm looking for. I bought my car a year ago and it only has 8000 miles (I know I know, I don't drive it enough), but I'm taking it in next week for its first free oil change, since I've read that I should have my oil changed once a year or every 15,000 miles, whichever happens first.

My question is, will the dealer (BMW of Nashville) do anything other than change the oil on this first servicing?

Thanks!

there are tons of threads on first oil change. in short, you won't get one until you reach 15k miles. i've never heard of "once a year" option. there were people who called to make an appointment at 14,500 miles and they got denied because it wasn't 15k.

you can sure have your oil changed before, but i think you're going to have to fork out around $300 for it.

My SA told me that if I haven't reached 15K by the end of the first year that they'll still do it for free, only it has to be exactly one year or more from the date of purchase otherwise they won't do it. He also quoted me 90 dollars to have the oil change done before the interval, but if you do that it is only an oil change, they don't reset the computer or anything.

i don't think you're right. the searches i ran all say that after one year, regardless of mileage, you get a free oil change coutesy of BMWNA. i refer you to http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...il+change+year. see the second post.

but scorviss, they only change the oil? anything else? i think that's all it needs, but i was wondering if there are any progman updates i need...the last one i got was to fix my bluetooth back in january 2006.

well, there are different experiences with different dealership. mine will surely not do it for me. i guess it never hurts to call and ask.

you need to call up BMWNA and complain because it's not coming out of the dealership's pocket--BMWNA picks up the tab.

I've already scheduled mine and the dealership agreed it was free even though I only have 8000 miles, but I was just wondering if they do anything else or just change the oil and send me on my way.

I just had my first service done and other than wash your car, I beleive all they do is a simple diag. and change the oil/filter. That's what my paperwork showed.
I took it in and an hour later it was done. No loaner or anything

so i took my car in and they claimed to have changed the oil, but the oil service meter still says that i have 11,000 miles to go before it needs a service, which is the same as what it said before i took it in. doesn't the car dynamically update the service levels based on the oil quality or whatever?

i'm not 100% convinced they changed the oil, because i opened up the hood and looked at the oil cap and it was still dusty with no fingerprints.

any ideas?

Maybe they didnt reset it?

i hope that's the case because it says i need to go in at 11,000 miles or 10/2007. i don't drive my car much so i'm sure i'll get to 10/2007 before i get another 11,000 miles on it.

I just had my oil change @ 9900 miles and they did it for free and I asked that the wipers be replaced and all of my fluids topped off. You may have to say that the wipers are streaking since that was what my invoice said. I didn't mention that either. Also they did not change the microfilter at this time. They did not reset my computer due to low mileage oil service as outlined in SIB 00 04 01. I had the tires balanced and rotated from side to side even thought I initially asked for it and then changed my mind but it was already done. They knocked off $20 so it came out to $92.71 for that! I know they did change the oil since I had a oil leak from the drain plug which made a mess of my garage and driveway. Took it back to the dealer after speaking to the shop forman and conveyed my feelings and the fact that it was my day off and again I was at the dealership wasting my time because the drain plug was not tight! They were happy to reflush the oil again and clean the bottom but there were only a couple of drops but the bottom of the cover had oil on it but I cleaned it anyway. I explained to them that I'm tired of having to comeback after each visit because of stuff that happens the first visit and they try and do right by comping me with something to get the 5 rating. Well this time I was really ticked off because of the mess of my driveway and garage. They offered to pay for the cleaning with my choice of company. I also asked that I receive a free alignment for all my trouble and time wasted. The shop foreman said no problem. I even asked if I was asking too much since I always give them a 5 and he said no. Even though they are bad at service they do try and make up for it!

Now that's what I call "workin' it".

I'm taking my car in on Friday for its first service... It's nearly at 16K miles

I also need to get the recall taken care of at the same time and have them check out some other stuff.
