New Purchase, too many Fee's ??
Hey folks,
As recently stated, I pulled the trigger for a 2010 335i coupe, got $500 over invoice, then there're those $400 maco + $180 training fee's which i can live with, but then I noticed there're other fees associated with my purchase, the following is what they charged me additionally: Documentary fees: $149.00 License Fee: $77.00 Deputy Fee: $5.00 Title Fee: $33.00 State Inspection: $21.75 Vehicle Inv. Tax: $100.84 Total: $386.59. Those are a lot of FEES!, i was under the impression that the maco and training fee took into account most of those... Also my car's being delivered from Germany, so why am i being charged Vehicle Inv. Tax if im going to be picking it up as soon as it arrives? So far i only put a down payment until the car arrives but do you think these fees are legit??? if not, is it possible to negotiate it being removed or reduced, before making my final purchase upon delivery? Your two cents are much appreciated. Thanks J. Last edited by sidekick96; 10-12-2009 at 07:57 PM.. |

That was my experience when I said I want "X" over invoice. So I told the CA's mgr I want to pay $1700 (this was Oct. '06, I realize the discount today is double that or more) under list. All of a sudden he started demanding over invoice, finally saying the number on my screen is my invoice. I simply said I'm not going to pay the fees and will go to the other dealership who offered the same price (46470 list minus 1700) and he said fine, you have a deal. These marketing fees are of no concern to me, especially if another dealership's "deal" doesn't include them. BMW takes holdback to another level by building in all kinds of additions to a customer's so-called x over invoice.

Just when I thought I got a great deal, they added a $140 detailing fee. When I asked about it, they said, well, in addition to getting a nice car wash and wax, you are also getting genuine BMW floor mats!
I am sure if I would have paid a little more for the car, they would have thrown in the floor mats for free. Just remember we all got to eat, so a couple of hundred more here or there doesn't mean anything for the dealer or for a BMW buyer. Just don't get taken for a ride by paying $1K or $2K too much. |

There are a lot of fees associated with purchasing a car.
I had it in with my negotiations that I would be willing to pay $500 over invoice including fees. If they wanted to tack on fees, it would come out of their commission. The CA who sold me my car was on his way out of the dealership, so I don't think he cared that much. |

For invoice purchases, the final base price will be base wholesale cost + options wholesale cost + MACO + training + destination & handling ($825). Doc Fee is charged for the processing of your sale and is not regulated. $149.00 is not too bad in average. Be concerned when they charge you $500 in addition to other fees. License Fee and Title Fee are the amounts charged to get your license plates and title registered. If they use a title company, you could see some other "processing" fees charged in there that you would need to ask for clarification. I am not sure about Deputy Fee, State Inspection, or Vehicle Inv. Tax. Is "Inv." for inventory? They don't look outrageous to me, but it would not hurt to ask for an exact description in the papers that you will sign. If they don't provide it to you, then you have the right to refuse payment until they do. As for the "Detailing Fee", it is completely bogus. They will say things like they are adding mats, car wash, full tank of gas, waxing job, professional detailing, etc. You have the right to deny it and say that you do not want the extras. Say that you already have mats and would prefer to car detailed professionally by yourself. They will give you a hard time, but it is not a mandated fee. Check well what fees are added before taxes and what fees are added after taxes. The ones charged before taxes are the ones that are usually bloated. The ones after taxes are usually mandated state fees are are legit. |
