You're looking at a USB power booster. As many of you know, the 6FL officially only supports non-fixed drives. This is because the cars internal USB bus does not have enough power to spin up most disk drives. This little gadget I built solves the problem by feeding external power to the hard drive. It automatically detects when the drive is accessed and powers on and off accordingly. (This is not a simple cigarette USB adapter, it detects when the drive is being used.) It's internal circuitry is fully regulated and has been working flawlessly for 10 months.

I had it hooked to a 320gb external laptop drive with about 12,000 songs. Any external laptop drive will work as long as its formatted in FAT32. At the moment I believe the largest laptop drive you can get is 500gb. That's around 25,000 songs....

Power to the device is provided from the sat radio hook up which is located behind the rear seat. The device has a connector that plugs right into it.
