Reasons for impound?

i just got pulled over for speeding yesterday. lasered me 58 on a 35 street.
(yes i know i was speeding not supposed to i was wrong blah blah blah)

the officer again being a **** as usual said he's going to impound my car. took my car keys and ask me to step out of the car

i think he said it just to scare me or something.. but what are the real reasons that the cop can give for impounding it? he said he can impound any car doesn' thave to be over 2x speed limit. could be 1mph over and he can impound it.. he is just abusing his power right?

but at the end he didn't impound it. just let me go with a ticket

Fuzzy dices are illegal in some countries. One would gain 10hp from it.
