How do you cover intercooler when painting??

i am painting my lower grills (plasti dip) and i was wondering how i would cover the intercooler when i spray... i did the sides with out covering the inside because it is just duct work and that turned out fine...

any suggestions? should i just get plasti dip in liquid form and brush it? im afraid that the finish wont be as nice.

I'm assuming the e90 is similar to the e92...
It'll pop out towards the back.
If I recall, take out the screws from the bottom of the bumper, and you should be able to get to it. You may have to remove a plastic under-panel.
Although, since you already sprayed the others while on the car, you may as well just stick some newspaper or cardboard behind in there and spray away.

Edit: Brushing will look like 100% junk

Huh? I don't know how it is with e90's, but there are countless posts of people masking off their e92 bumpers and using the brush and sponge method.

Unless you're just blobbing it on there having it drip everywhere, I don't see how it could look that bad. Like anything if you take your time and allow proper drying I don't think it's a big deal.

It's plastic mesh, no one's gonna be looking 1 inch at your grilles.

Btw OP, if you're planning on doing any "spraying" you're better off removing the bumper and not taking any chances.

You pretty much have 4 options.

1) Mask off your bumper and use the paint and sponge method

2) Buy 328 grilles from your dealer, and modify them if you have an oil cooler.

3) Buy pre-modified grilles from a vendor (though most of them are painted anyway)

4) Take off your bumper and spray them.

NOTE: Options 2-4 are going to require front bumper removal.

I stand corrected then. Best of luck to the OP.

I masked mine off and sprayed, doesn't really hit the intercooler.. just nice light swipes with a spray can.. make sure it adheres to plastic of course!
