PDC New Car Prep
As a fellow detail fanatic I've asked dealers in the past to not prep or even wash my new cars prior to delivery. I'll be taking PDC sometime in the Spring and am curious if anyone knows the level of prep the folks in Spartanburg use for the PDC delivered vehicles. I have read previously about the attention to detail they practice and they seem to know how NOT to marr or scratch my new BMW but I'm still curious.
I have also read about the Z Homecoming events where they have their body/paint shop folks come out and provide some paint correction so that also gives me a warm fuzzy about the care they might take with their new deliveries. Anyone have any more specific knowledge or anectodal experience to galvanize my confidence in taking PDC delivery of a perfect new BMW 335i? Or should I tell them not to even wash it either? Thanks for any experience you can share.

I can not speak about that dealership, I have no experience with them at all. I can say that in all my years detailer I've never, ever, seen a PDI/PCD from a dealership that I was happy with. Just imo, of course.
Besides, wouldn't you enjoy doing the prep yourself? You strike me as a pretty meticulous/precise sort of guy, seems like something you might like. ![]() |

My experience was great. No swirls or other imperfections noted. After driving 700 miles home, we washed with Dawn and did a full Zaino application.
I was impressed with the prep.... infinitely better than any cars I see in the dealer showroom.

Picus - the PCD is the BMW factory in Spartanburg SC where they build the Z4 and X5's. BMW offers three new vehicle delivery options: local dealer, Spartanburg PCD and the European Delivery program. I am opting for the PCD delivery in SC to take advantage of the factory delivery experience and the track driving opportunity. My question is related to the level of perfection you get from the "factory" BMW techs that probably handle your new car prep. I would never have my dealer even wash my car but I'm thinking the BMW folks at the corporate delivery center measure to a higher standard - just not sure what that is. I will absolutely cherish the time when it gets the full monty after I get it home.

Having the pros at Spartanburg prep my car is one of the reasons I will choose PCD. You have to think that spending 2 hours going over the features of your new BMW (which any local dealer wouldn't spend half that amount of time) would require top notch prep work and give even the mildly interested the opportunity to point out any flaws. But then again, why would the mildly interested take PCD?
