335 DCT tunings questions
Hi everyone
I have few questions about tuning E92 335 dct '09 first of all, any idea how much horsepower the DCT gearbox can handle ? because if I did the chip + intercooler + downpipe + airfiter : 100~120+HP also I just saw a tuning Viezu chip tuning for the 335 .... any comments or recomandations on that brand or other brands ? and what about the Active autowerke down pipe.... I'm planning to buy it... how good is it ? NOTE : I've got Active autowekre INTERCOOLER , and I'm planning also to get DINAN OIL COOLER..... waiting for your replies guys... |

The tranny could handle 440 lbs(600nm) and 9000 rpm according to bmw. The tranny shifts very smoth when cruising, but if you are going to race you have to shift to manual mode since the software is designed for std hp.( you will get some lag when using kick-down) If you are going to tune a dct tranny i recomend you to use the procede since tha function of reducing power in 1st and 2d gear is very useful with the dct tranny, i donīt belive jb3 or flasches has this function. You will get to much wheelspinn when launching if you have full power with a dct

@ per : hmmm.. I'm not very good in these things (440 lbs(600nm) and 9000 rpm ), can you explain more please ?? (I dont know if it's possible to convert these numbers to HPs)
@ graystone : I've got HAMANN exhausts already , I was waiting almost 1 year for G-power chip tuning stage 3 (387 HPs) but it's still under preparation.. so, no comments on viezu ??? and is there any good oil cooler ?? or DINAN is the best for the 335 ? |

Oil cooler, I know I read something about oil cooler do a search but it seems that there has'nt been a lot of complaining about the oem one more about the FMIC witch u have already addressed. If I recall there was another company doing field study. forget witch though.
Have u looked into light weight pulley |

Newer heard of viezu. Most important thing when you tune a dct tranny car, make sure the power is adjustable in the first gears.

Does the M3 and the 335 really have the same tranny? I could have sworn the auto in the 335i was not a DCT.

Outside USA you can get DCT transmission in 335i coupe (not in the sedan though).

sorry to disagree. What I know the gearbox is not the same... see also the spare parts catalogue. Different partnumbers and different weight.
335i: partnumber: 28 00 7 585 538 Weight: 80.250 kg / 176.921 lb M3: partnumber: 28 00 2 283 701 / 28 00 7 842 377 Weight: 84.000 kg / 185.188 lb http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E9...lutch_gearbox/ http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E9...lutch_gearbox/ |

^^ it's probably just the bell housing that's different. One's mounting to a v8 one to a I-6. It's way cheaper for BMW to use the same trans.

Since i drive an M3 DCT and a Z4 35i DCT i can confirm that they are quite different. They both have 7 speed but they work so different. The M3 stands stoped without pressing the brake pedal when the 1st gear is in , but the Z4 if you dont push the brake it goes front like a usual automatic.
M3 is adjustable in 6 programms , but Z4 has sport sequential option or automatic and programm normal , sport and sport+. Feeling of faster gear change has the M3 tranny.Z4 dct is also very fast not faster from the M3 but a lot faster than a steptronic.M3 wins on the sequential mode because in the auto has the great lag.Z4 is perfect in the auto mode and is very fast in the sequential. Each one is designed on a different engine. |

335 DCT vs. M3 M-DCT
I too drove both a Z4 35i DCT and then an M3 DCT, and they do feel quite different...
The M3 DCT reminded me more of my current E46 M3 SMG with regards to the "layout" of the paddles and stick (over and up for reverse) and "mode level" selector. I don't know about "M3EST"'s comment that the DCT trannys shift faster than a steptronic though, as I noticed quite a lag to "get things moving"...After having a 335i Sedan loaner for a few days (w/ Sport & NAV), I was so impressed with the 'Step that I decided to give up on my pursuit of an E92 M3, and instead ordered a 2010 335i Coupe, pretty loaded (including w/ M-Sport, NAV, Premium, Comfort Access, Alarm, Heated Seats, iPod/SmartPhone, etc.), that just got onto a ship last week and will arrive in early December... I'll be putting the '02 M3 up for sale soon...best car that I have ever owned... One of the reasons that I went with a 335 vs. a new M3 is to have some $$ left over to customize it, as I did w/ my custom-ordered '02 M3, and my '00 328Ci before that...wheels, trunk/spoiler, tint, coilovers... Regards, Scott W '02 M3 (Topaz Blue/Black, 19s, Coilovers, Tint, Rear Spoiler, etc.) '10 335 (White/Coral/Alum, MSport, Prem, Nav, Alarm, Comfort Access, Heated Seats, iPod, etc.) |
