Generally quarter mile sprints put maximum stress your cars engine, drivetrain, clutches, diffs etc. Basically you're asking your cars engine to produce the most power and torque, the gearbox and clutch to channel the max power/trq to the diff and tyres... Max stress yes. Max fun absolutely!
Launch control can reduce abit of stress on the drivetrain but not that much. I wouldn't do it to often.

I want to try it, but the manual says not to do it until you have done about 2,000 km.
Might get there sometime next January :-(

I've done the Launch control in my 335i coupe with dual clutch. Small amount of wheelspin, but good take off. Gear box didn't seem particularly stressed -(none of that SMG jolt).

Hey guys. So is launch control an OEM feature in Australia on the 3 series? I haven't seen it discussed anywhere for the US 3 series

Not too sure about the 325i manual but my 325i auto doesn't have this feature. However my G6E Turbo sedan has a transient overboost feature and a ZF 6-speed auto box with cylinder cut-out feature which is as good as a launch control feature IMO as Caradvice.com.au (http://www.caradvice.com.au/44132/20...car-comparison) has recently clocked their new G6ET at 4.97s for 0-100km sprint and 13.25s for the qtr.

Actually left NYC and in Las Vegas now. Saw a hot black M6 convertible on the way in from the airport.

As far as launch control on the 325, it would NOT be possible, as only 335s have DCT at the moment (other than M3s).

As far as I'm aware, Launch Control is only available in BMWs with Dual Clutch gearboxes - 335i and M3.
