I have a space gray car, and it is NOT as responsive to my wash and wax as my previous jet black car. Nor did AIO/GS make it that much shinier. I'm curious what you guys have used on space gray, or other metallic BMW colors and what your results have been?

Hey Danforz - you know what I think about this. It's hard to make silvers as noticeably different after detailing as black, but you should see a difference. Stuff I use on colors like space grey:
Zaino Z2pro or Z5pro (probably Z2) Werkstatt Acrylic Jett Trigger Meguairs #16 50/50 mix of optimum car wax and werkstatt carnauba jett. I like them all on silvers. |

Z2 Pro would be your best bet due to it's optical clarity. Most other sealants will darken and mute the metallic flake taking away from the colour. This is not ideal for lighter paints.

I did Distilled Vinegar/Distiller Water(50/50) wash(previous thread), dawn wash, Meguiar Gold wash, claybar, AIO, 3 coats SG over the last month. This picture was just after a wash. No QD, no PC. All by hand. Only thing that touched it that day was Meguiars gold, sheepskin mitt and waffle weave to dry. Doesn't look as good as dark colors, but I think it looks pretty damn good. You can see my choice of lawn tools in the reflection of the door.(pic attached)
The nice thing about space gray, is for example, right now my car is FILTHY. I'll probably wash it tomorrow morning or night. From more than 5 feet away, it sparkles. Can't do that with a dark color. For the vets, I'm thinking of getting a PC for the wife's minivan. If I use a pc with AOI and SG, will the car be shinier or would it look the same? |

Pics right after AIO but before SG. The second picture has some serious reflections. This is all without sun. Picture above is in a closed garage with lousy lighting. It is not as nice as a black car, but alot less work. I'm very impressed with the Klasse. If DaveN and Picus think Zaino would look much better, I may splurge for the Zaino kit for the reseal in 6 months.
The car was shinier with SG, but not significantly. It was like: wow. Not WOW |

The PC just makes it a lot easier to apply product, and with polishes it is really helpful. Your car looks fantastic! I too am a Klasse fanatic, but often use AIO and follow it with a wax or another sealant that is easier to remove such as Poorboy's EX or Wolfgang. My favorite combination is Klasse AIO topped with Souveran paste wax.

Thanks for the response and the comps. I loved SG. It applied and removed so easily it was incredible. I couldn't imagine an easier product. I followed DavidN's rec's to the T with the application. Small area and remove immediately. Wipe on and off. Using about 1/3 of the hood to 1/4 of the hood as a work space size. I moistened a terry covered application pad with distilled water and rung out as much as possible so the pad was just moist. Process worked very well.
I'm getting more and more interested to try it with the PC(I don't own one YET). I'm actually trying to justify purchasing it in my mind by saying I'll fix the scratches on my wife's minivan. There was an interesting thread on fixing scratches and rock chips with a PC, factory paint and some polishes. I'll probably end up getting the PC then not fixing the wife's car and just redoing my car 4 months early.(LOL) |

The nice thing about using the PC is that it is easier to apply a really thin layer. It is also nice to use the Microfiber bonnet on a large foam pad as a final pass to make sure all product is removed. And when using polishes the PC really is a necessity, unless one owns and is proficient at using a rotary polisher. There is no learning curve with the PC - it is instant success.

Ya, #16 was killed under VOC laws, luckily you can get it from us. It's a nice wax; not *amazing*, but good looks considering the durability you get out of it. Enjoy.

My JB 330i E90 was applied with Mothers 3-step. The shine, particularly after Mothers Sealer&Glaze applied, is now almost look a permanent piano black shine, even the car is a bit dirty.
