Mysterious Problem with Footwell and Door Illumination Lamp
So I hit a massive dip in my e90 and I started to get a crackling out of my left door speakers (after market). So I took the door panel off and resoldered a wire from my crossover to my tweeter guessing that that was the problem. I also tightened up a pin connector taking the signal from OEM wiring to my cross over.
In any case, something I did worked and no more crackling. But now, my footwell lights and door bottom illumination lights stay on whenever my headlights are on. The car knows the door is closed, so that can't be it. Any idea what the car could be thinking? What kind of sensor could fail, or what could I have accidentally done in the driver's door, to cause these internal lights to stay on when the headlights are on and all the doors are closed? |

Not sure if this'll help, but try unplugging the battery overnight?
Also a BT scan might show a code so its worth a shot.

I know I could take it into the dealer and get it fixed, but I am concerned that they will say it was my fault for mucking around installing aftermarket speakers and messing with the door wires, so I have to pay $$$$$ for their analysis. I will try unplugging the battery, sounds good, is that like a hard reboot? I was hoping I could figure out what the car was thinking and narrow it down to a wire in the door that I might have pulled on too hard or something. But I can't think of a situation in which the footwell and door illumination lights (not the handle illumination lights) would want to stay on all the time (when the headlights are on) even when I am driving. I will try unplugging the battery over night, is that like a hard reboot? |

I almost never have CEL's but always have a myriad of codes. When I did my headliner painting, it set like a million codes and no service lights. A BT tool was my best friend with that project.
As far as the whole reboot concept, I'm not sure to be honest. But, I have had many issues (esp. electronic ones) solved by unplugging the battery overnight. Give it a shot!
