335i being repaired - bad turbo
Have 24K miles on the car and received an "engine failure" light on the dash. Dealer says rear turbo shot. The car is driven on the street, never track situations or anything where the car is beaten up.
Is this a common thing? Is the long oil change interval to blame? The car is on it's second set of oil and the car is not due for another change for a few more miles. I have always heard that the oil in a turbo charged car is in need of frequent changes. Given that BMW pays for the oil changes, I can see where they want to change them infrequently, but if you need a new turbo every other oil change, they are not saving themselves any money. Paul |

The 15K mile oil change interval is ridiculous to say the least. To anyone who knows nothing more than how to start & drive the car, the 15K intervals work. For those of us who realize that full synthetic oil begins to breakdown @ 8K ........... well, 7500K intervals are the way to go. |

Took 335i for a nice Saturday morning drive...keeping RPMs high, shifting gears...enjoying the power of BMW twin turbo engine... I only drive this car on weekends to take my girlfriend shopping, so this past hard working week I was looking forward to take this BMW out for an early morning drive, only to experience an ENGINE MALFUNCTION... and "limp mode". I am not new to this malfunction situation, had this car for 3 years and ran it to 54k miles already. Lease is up in 3 weeks and I was considering keeping the car. Being the original owner and car having so many miles, make it a bargain to buy car out, but.... it happens to be out of warranty now, so I guess this 335i's fate is sealed,- it is going back to BMWFS and someone else will inherit this problem, or problems....bad solenoids? bad turbo? bad whatever? how much would it cost $$$ out of pocket to just diagnose the problem at the dealer? and to fix it? wow... for those considering a purchase of 335i, it might be a very risky business. Maybe this thread belongs in "purchase" section of forum? Sorry for the rant, but I have always been the number one fan of 335i... even a die-hard fan's cup gets full sometimes.

For how much this 2007 335i black sapphire 6mt coupe with 54k miles cost as a buy out, it might be worth it though to invest extra $$$ to diagnose and fix problem... still it is a nice ride, and always been best value. Thanks for reply!
