Uh Oh Jb3 :( Help!
So I have been getting some long cranks and today I decided to take out my JB3 and my intake so i could take the car in for service. BOY do i wish I had just left it in...
I ended up spending about 5 hours on the car trying to get it t work but to no avail. The problem is as follows: - when I turn on the car the engine revs from 1k to 2k rpm again and again and again (as if i was tapping the accelerator) after about 4 seconds the DSC and DBM warnings start flashing.. No matter what i do it wont stop so I just turn the car off. - I connected the car up to my BT scanner and received the following faults: *2CF9 Throttle valve potentiometer 1 2CFA Throttle valve potentiometer 2 2D09 butterfly valve 2D1D Accelerator pedal module, pedal sensor 1, voltage supply 29F3 Fuel pressure sensor, electrical -EEK! so i cleared the codes and reset the ECU and it started normally! Unfortunately when i turned it off and tried to turn it on again it went right back to revving and showing faults. The next time i did it i took the car out for a drive and it drove perfectly... ANy one have any advice? I was going to bring it in to the dealership on Monday but i dont want them to laugh at me and say that I obviously modified it and that they wont do anything under warranty. I cleared all the codes and took everything out. I checked the wires that were changed during the JB3 installation and they were al in the right place. so im SOO confused.. PLEASE FILL ME IN! lol thanks guys |

I took it to Sun Motors BMW in Mechanicsburg, PA. I am from FL but in Harrisburg, PA for a work contract. My E92 needed service and yes I was worried about warranty issues. I did order the BT scanning tool from BMS. I deleted all fault codes detected and took it in for service and pleased to say everything went great. I have a JB3 v1.1 not the 1.4. along with the Bastuck quads, RPI red ram air scoops along with some cosmetic mods. Everything went smooth.
Good luck my friend. I would call Terry, the creator of the JB3 and i know he will guide you to fix your problem.

Question: If i go to one dealer and they say no and that they cant do the work because i voided my warranty.. can i go to another dealership or is my car warranty ACTUALLY void and i cant go anywhere with it? |

Yup first order of business would be to contact Terry or Mike@n54tuning (forum sponsor on E90post)
Do you have a JB3 PLug and play? And the same problem was present with the Jb3 on and now that it is off? |

reset ECU (and just the ECU and not the other variables) on the commands section of the BT Tools software. Then choose clear fault codes in all modules.
Then start your car a couple of times to make sure this doesnt happen. If you are still having problems, reset the ECU then unplug the battery for 10 minutes. Plug it back in and give it a try. |

Do you have a pinout or a PnP?
If pinout, you may have returned a wire to the wrong pin?? Easily done especially with the two solenoid wires which are the same color and right next to each other. Go back and check.

Sounds like you have a pinout and mixed up some wires back into the factory connectors, double check all your wiring. The JB3 install instructions tell you what color wire in what connector location number to extract, double check them all and make sure you didn't mix some up or put them back into an empty spot, it sounds like your ECU is getting mixed signals.
Also - did you have your battery disconnected when your removed the JB3? if not disconnect the battery to reset and when you work on it some more and call Terry for help!

I had a similar problem with my E92 - 2D09 code with rpms going from 1k to 2k with no throttle input. Started happening one morning with JB3 installed and was still there after I took out JB3. I've had JB3 installed for about a month prior with no issues whatsoever until that day. I saw no signs of missing or damaged ECU wires when I was removing the JB3.
Took it to the dealer and their diagnosis was that throttle had lost adaptation values due to low battery voltage and fixed it by resetting throttle adaptation and clearing fault codes. I should have tried this with my BT but figured it was a bad accelerator pedal as per Terry's online diagnosis. You could try resetting throttle adaptation using the BT tool, that might fix your issue. |

you do realize that BMS has their own forum and instructions for what to do if something goes wrong while JB3 is installed.. Email him before posting on a board that he can't read.. it will save you time and effort..

It's a pin out removal. OP likely crossed a wire so I suggested he check each against BMS' thread with photos of each. Clearing the codes/adaptions might be a good idea as well.

thanks guys.. It IS a pin out.. I checked all the wire and couldnt find anything yesterday.. I went to the bms website to check the install guide and found the wiring diagram. I went over it 10 times and couldnt see where I went wrong. Even with the two yellow wires that are next to each other.. ANyone know if there is a wiring diagram for the factory ECU ??

im going to get in there and check again.. the weird thing is that once in a while it will start normally and run great? Could it even do that if the wires were switched?
Im sure this is my fault im not blaming the jb3 AT ALL. I just want to make sure if i bring it in after a couple days of trying they arent going to find something that i looked over. I guess the only thing could be wiring so I will check again. Thanks guys |

FIXED IT!.... my wiring wasn't off... instead one of the pins from my jb3 had broken off and was laying flat on the bottom of the ECU.. I guess the large sub-connecter didnt have perfect contact and was the problem. As soon as I took some pincers and got the little thing out, i connected everything back up and it worked like normal.. I was working on this thing all day yesterday into last night... I guess i just couldnt see it..
OOPS!... THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED! im sorry im retarded and didnt look more closely. |
