Side marker bulb replacement?

I want to replace the "silver tip" side marker bulbs with full silver bulbs. I popped the marker housing off but couldn't get the bulb module out. What's the trick?

Thanks!

Thanks Long, that's what I thought but I didn't want to brake the tab off. I'm not sure it will come off without breaking the tab because I did pry it up pretty good but still couldn't get the module out.

Did the LED bulbs in the sidemarker light trigger an error message in the car computer?

Thanks.

I just replaced my side marker lights.
To get to the bulb, you need to slide the clear marker housing towards the rear of the car and lift it out.
I pried up the tab in question with a jeweler's screwdriver enough so that I could twist the assemby out of the housing. Twist counterclockwise. The led that I replaced the incandescent with is PIAA 19263, High Intensity , Super LED, White Color. It looks excellent with a slight blue tint, and did not trigger any error.

How do you get those freakin' side marker lenses off of the car anyway?

I can't get enough of a grip on the lens to get it to budge. BMW must have epoxied mine on permanently!

Sorry for no pics, but I just did this and its pretty easy.

The lens only slides a quarter of an inch or so. However, you can get something flat underneath to pry the lens off - a small screwdriver will work fine. Even IF you do make a small scratch, it will be behind where the lens was before you slid it over 1/4 inch. It won't take much lifting force with the screwdriver to pop the lens off. You should be able to do this easily and without scratching your paint.

Next, with the help of a a small screwdriver, disconnect the wiring harness from the lens/bulb holder. This makes the next step easier.

Now to remove the bulb holder from the lens, you need to carefully lift the tab holding it in place... you'll see what I mean. This will be just slightly tricky as the tab is pretty firm. Another poster mentioned that he broke them off, but this can be done without breaking them. I used the shaft of an eyeglass screwdriver to pry it up from the side nearest the bulb. Lift the tab just enough so you can rotate the bulb holder LEFT. Its a little tough to do but not particularly difficult. It rotates a little less than a quarter turn. Then the bulb holder pulls out easily.

Finally, just pull the bulb out of the holder. Not sure if you need to protect the bulbs with a paper towel to avoid dust/oil on it, but I did, for both old and new - in case I need the old ones again for some reason.

Putting it back together is very straightforward so I won't explain. Again, sorry for no pics, but this is really easy to do.
