Bluetooth question

There didn't seem to be any answers to this so here goes... I just got a 2006 325i, no navi system but it does have bluetooth. I had bought a Samsung Alias2 (U750) a few months ago to replace a dead phone on Verizon. The phone too has bluetooth although I had never used it. When I got the car, I was excited about using the hands-free technology. I was successful in pairing the phone to the car and can do the basic functions but the voice commands don't seem to do anything with the phone. The car communicates with ME but not with the phone. If I try to access the phonebook, which I can display on my radio dial, it says "Phonebook empty". I can't seem to create any phonebook entries either. Does the car actually download my phonebook into it's memory or just read it off of the phone? I would really like to use the voice commands to make or answer calls. (Once the call is placed or answered, I CAN continue with the hands-free conversation, I just can't INITIATE the call by voice...) Anyone have any thoughts on this? I hope my explanation is clear enough... I think the system is working (or not???) but my understanding of its correct useage may be lacking... Thanks in advance for any advice.
