I find that my special satnav disk overheats after about 2hrs of use, not sure if its thd drive or the media, but does anyone else have this problem?

Yes, don't use copied DVD's - they made my drive sound very 'busy' as the laser was constantly indexing over the disc.

Put my OE disc back in and all was quiet. Never hear it now.

DVD drive is known to fail, so I'm not taking any chances.

Try burning it again, using DVD RW media. That always worked best in my car.

If it's a dual layer version rip out the non-english language stuff to reduce the ISO size and burn as single layer.

I've had a 'special' disc in my car for about 2 1/2 years without any overheating.

Ah interesting - how easy is it to rip out the non English stuff from the DL version?

I think that there is a post on here somewhere by Vivekk with instructions. You need an ISO editing programme (e.g. power ISO) or may be able to use Winrar.
