Help: Clutch Affects Revs

I would appreciate some help with an issue I'm having.

06' 325i - Manual

Either depressing or releasing the clutch will make the engine rev up to about a 1000rpm.

Low coolant warning light came on this morning, I don't see how they are related but the issue started this afternoon.

We have a pretty rough temperature drop, I am driving in -25*C weather.

Any thoughts?

TPS Sensor?

Thx mates.

holy crap, -25 degrees C?

My [talking out of my ass] guess is that the arctic weather you are having has caused the transmission fluid to become thick like molasses, making it harder to spin than usual. could cause the electronics to work out of normal parameters to compensate (like letting in more air to keep the engine from stalling).

Also, if you are low on coolant, it can change the resistance acting on the water pump assembly (connected to the crankshaft via the serpentine belt), which also can affect idle.

sudden changes in the rotational resistance (such as pressing the clutch and releasing the motor from the trans) may cause rpms to jump if your transmission is swimming in syrup.

Does it go away after the car warms up completely?

Thx for the input.

Even after an hour of driving same issue.

When I added coolant yesterday it resolved the issue immediately, but it came back this morning.

Anything else I can check?

you might have a coolant leak somewhere. could be a very small pinhole that only leaks under pressure, and instantly vaporizes when it does. Keep an eye on your coolant level, and if it gets low again, start checking hoses for leaks.

I agree with mike-y pushing in the clutch is = a lot less rotational mass and that cold weather and thick fluid sounds like the culprit
