Advice please on 3 series lease 2010

Hi,

I was at the Dealer and got some prelim numbers on a lease -

$25 advance disposal fee
300 lease fee
300 documentation fee
100 air tax
Freight, pdi $2,195
battery levy $5

Are any of these items negotiable on making a deal ? or is my best alt to get as much discount on the msrp as possible (what should I be asking for, in terms of a "fair" deal?)

thanks

D.

Because it's a lease and you don't really own the car I'd say to not sweat the small stuff and negotiate the down payment and monthly payment. These are the only numbers (assuming you don't buy it out, which is never the cheapest way to buy a car) that matter to you and let them figure out how to arrive at the numbers that you're looking for.

when i leased me car i negotiate on the monthly payments. i just told them that i got this amount to put down and i want this monthly payment. im pretty sure they will work that out for you.

You may be able to get them to eliminate or reduce the "lease fee" and "documentation fee", but the others are definitely non-negotiable. This whole thing of dealers charging fees for documentation / admin is just total bs. Their job is to sell and finance cars. What other business charges a fee on top of the price of its products for selling its core product!?!

I think the monthly payments are all you should be worried about, and is the only thing you can cut. You can easily cut MSRP by talking off your add ons/packages (if any).

1. Bringing a quote in from another dealer will help, a lower one of course.
2. Dealing directly with the business manager
3. Check out the low km lease options-it ups your residual and your monthly payments go down. I think you can go as low as 10k/yr, but don't hold me accountable, as it might be 16k. But even from 24 to 20 makes a diff. BMW lowered lease end residuals since the 06, 07 batch so monthly is bound to be higher than before.

Lease interest rates are also lower, thus net payments should be the same

Not at all. There is a huge difference in residuals between now and a couple of years ago. Plus current interest rates on leases for 2010s are 4.9%, which is much higher than many people who leased in 06 - 09.

As I see it, the documentation and Lease fees is just an additional margin that dealers will make. Equivalent to airport tax/fuel fees for airlines and system access fees for telecoms.

As far as i remember, the 'documentation' fee was pre-printed right on the contract you sign......so i'm fairly certain that's not negotiable.... but as someone said before........just worry about the bottom line, and let them figure out where and how they can lower the numbers, to meet your offer

Correct. The residual on my 335 is 61%. Lease rate is 3.4%. I don't think the 2010s even come close to that.

Yea, the BMW.ca calculator shows residuals between 42 - 47% for 36-months 24k / year. Even if the current lease rates were 0%, your payments would still be much lower than a 2010.

2010 lease on 39 months is 3.9%
328Xi 52% residual

To the OP. Dont deal with the monthly payment, bargain on the MSRP. Putting money down on the lease is a waste as you dont get that money back. See if you can put multiple security deposits instead to bring the money factor down. The security deposit goes back to you at lease end.

I got 8% off MSRP is that good?

See, another one that got 61% resisdual! Actually, when I ordered my car, it is 61% but when I took delivery(3mth later), it dropped to 59% but they end up gave me more discount on msrp to even it out in order to get the same monthly payment.

+1

% off MSRP is the only number that the dealer has any control of. Interest rate and % residual are all set by BMW Canada, and they are effective as of time of delivery. They are not up to the dealer to decide. Doc and admin fees are also negotiable but they are only small one time savings. % off MSRP is the only number you can negotiate that affects monthly payment.
