E90 Throttle Body??
I am hoping that someone may tell me what the device that looks like a Throttle Body on the N52 engine.
Throttle position has control over the Inlet valve lift, so what does this do - it does have a mechanism hanging off one side of it. Fritzables. |

that is the throttle body, but its not directly controlled by your foot, and the thing on the side of it is the actuator to make the flap open and close.
All controlled by the Vanos system if i remember right... |

Well, there ya go. Didn't know that.
I was always under the impression that the N52 was controlled directly by the valve lift only. FrankiE90, that's what prompted me to ask the question. I was looking at accessories for my E90 and come across the one Dinan sell. Fritzables. |

the N52 throttle body remains all the way open during normal operation, and actual throttle control is sent to the valvetronic system which varies the amount of lift at the intake/exhaust valves. It's quite different than the N54 and older BMW I-6 engines.

throttle body is there only as a safety measure, if the valvetronic sticks fully open (it can happen for various reasons, not 100% reliable) this throttle body closes to prevent accident

I read in another thread (dont remember which thread exactly) that someone already asked and Dinan said the harness for the throttle body is different in the 328, so no dice. Sorry
