Wait so that white piece lifts the weight of the WHOLE crane up to put another peace in? That's insane!

i know! haha. that hydraulic mechanism in the white piece lifts it. i never knew how intense they are. something totally overlooked thats used to create huge structures is in its own way, an incredible piece of engineering. it builds itself...kinda creepy haha
and i never thought about how they were stabilized onto the ground the second one is also crazy at such a scale |

not the whole crane, but just the top part, that white piece continues moving up near the top as the crane get taller, so its always lifting the same amount of weight doesn't matter how high the crane gets.

for that building, the construction started like this:
then when they got to the top, the cranes used each other to take each other apart until there was one left. that remaining one disassembled itself lower and looks like it built another crane beneath it so that when it reached that level, the new crane took it down completely. i would assume that was what happened over and over on the way down until they reach ground level you can see it here: |
