It's fun to see everyone's responses. Although the Sam Adams Oktoberfest wasn't on my list, it's in my fridge.

North Coast Brewing Co. has ruined me for other beers. Old Rasputin is my hands-down favorite. If you like stout, this is the best I've ever had, and I used to tend bar back in the old days, so I've tried a ton of them. The Old Stock Ale (2009) is excellent, too. Both are very high in alcohol content, so they aren't for pounding, but for tasting.

[QUOTE=cboneck;6352712]Good thread...

So I've gone through the typical beer phases... college crap beers > imports > then hard into belgians > US micros > now IPAs. Living in Chicago is a beer lover's dream since we have one the best bars in the US ... Hopleaf.

The belgian beers in my mind are the best in the world. They are as complex as wine and sometimes as potent.

Even amongst the beglians Westvleteren stands alone, and it is simply the best beer in the world IMHO. Too bad you can't order it from anywhere and can only get it from the monestary. In fact, one has to make an appointment in advance and are then only allowed to buy one case per month. Had a friend sneak it over where we tried three bottles.

i've got me a bottle of all 3...had to go through some serious trades to get my hands on them

Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard-If you are in Socal and can go to Stone Brewery, I highly recommend it. Incredible beer selection on tap (far beyond just their own brews), great restaurant, very nice architecture and one of the best gardens in Socal
Stone Ruination
New Belgium Fat Tire
Some of the Pizza Port in house brews.

San Diego is awesome for microbrew houses.

For my graduation present a couple years back my good friends bought me a magnum of the Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard....The bottle came with a lock and key that you had to use just to open it..shit was rediculous
