I had the same issue as you last week and I called Kwik Fit, National and ATS and none of them would repair a run flat tyre. I ended up with two replacements from National based on price in the end.
I am sure that you can find someone to repair it but I suspect that none of the main companies will touch it. I guess the concern is that they do not know if the structure of the tyre has been damaged as it has been driven on while potentially flat. Andy |

+1.
Some indy places will have a bash, but the big firms won't. They just quote manufacturers guidelines which say you can't repair them if they have been driven flat. As the TMPS won't even tell you its flat until you've driven on it anyway, I suspect it is nigh on impossible to have a puncture and NOT drive on it. You can't see if an RFT is flat, so you MUST drive on it to find out.... As you don't have a spare, you then DRIVE to the tyre place to see if they'll repair it - GOTCHA!! Catch 22.. |

Erm any place except the ones listed really. I went to a local round the block from where I live. They repaired it no hassle. 10er I think it cost. Be sure to get it checked properly where the nail went in though. It's a pretty easy process patching it up though. Seems like a waste of a good tyre scrapping it IMO.

cheers everyone.
Just took the wheel off. It was so easy - I have a long wrench. Anyway the car is locked in the garage, jacked up. Taking wheel to tyre chaps for opinions tomorrow Here is a pic. You can clearly see the nail. Its more on the outerside but still away from the sidewall itself. It will be interesting to hear opinions on it. Last edited by tyler durden; 11-26-2009 at 03:19 PM.. |

wheel seen by several different people. All say too much wear on inner side and the nail cannot be repaired.
Options 1. replace 1 RFT 2. replace both rear RFT due to inner edge wear 3. If replacing both rears should I take this as an opportunity to try non RFT? 4. Which nonRFT for 19inch Msport Opinions much appreciated |

here are some pics of the inner edge.
Will have a closer look at the other side but my experience of the 3 series (I'm on my 4th) is that inner wear is par for the course |

Hmmmm borderline repairable given the lack of tread.
Surprisngly not bad enough to fail an MOT looking at the pic.

Mot faliure is 1.6mm over 2/3 width with visible tread on the remainder
So could possible fail it if they were picky. I would say it's not worth repairing. |

well, the update is that Kwik fit are putting a fresh set of rear RE050A RFT's on the back.
I came really close to moving to nonRFT and had some Falken 452's on hold. Changed my mind when a tyre fitter told me to think through all the consequences of a flat in a car with no spare. Safety apart, he has had people get flats in reading and drive home to Kent without having to stop etc. If I went nonRFT then it would mean stopping and faffing. Each to their own, but for me its RFT for now. Knowing the 3 series, I expect there will be many more chances to try nonRFT |

Its illegal to repair a RFT tyre under EU law. If your found with a repaired tyre, you will be fined. Get some tyre insurance. Got a nail mine last week. New tyre, £10. Normal price £230 per tyre fully fitted.

Quote:
The only reason I thought it was illegal was that my previous car was written off when an Audi smashing into the side of me. It was fitted with run flats and my insurance told me that it had repaired tyres of which they said it was illegal to run with them |
