Bought car in IL, what to do with title?
So I just bought my BMW from a private party in Chicago, IL. The person's bank sent the title to my bank and my bank sent it to me. Was the bank supposed to send the title back to the owner to then sign over to me? I'm not really sure what to do since I am located in Maryland. The bank filled out their part but it looks like the owner still needs to sign. Anyone here familiar with titling in IL??? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

you still have to have the guy sign it, I would say send it back and have him sign it and send it back. If you dont trust hm make sure to contact him through email or something so you can have backup if he decides hes gonna try to scam you or something.

Yeah, I went through my bank and I have a loan. My bank paid off the lien on his car a few weeks ago and I already have the car in my possession. But for some reason, his bank sent the Illinois title directly to my bank, and my bank then sent it to me.

yeah they should send it to your bank, the reason they did that is because they paid the lien to to pay off the other bank. What your going to have to do now is register the car and send it back to the bank, because they would want it (they do technically own the car, until you pay it off) So technically there shouldn't be a signature from the person you bought it from but possibly a stamp from the bank he got the loan from. In that case just get it registered

What? No, it's not mine.
I am not 100% sure of this process myself, but I'm going to have to go through it on Friday hopefully. The seller will pay off the car, and the buyer has to sign something so that the bank can just mail the title to the seller or the seller's bank. |

I've bought and sold things state to state. But either way if you have the original title in your hand you don't need the guy to sign it. Just Title it. Just make.take a bill of sale and sign the title over to yourself
