thoughts on Vredestein tires
My General Exclaim UHP's in the rear are gone after 7k, but my fronts are like new so I'm thinking of trying the Vredesteins in the rear. Does anyone have experience between the Exclaims and the Vredesteins? Also does anyone see any problem with running the Exclaim's up front and the Vredestein's in the rear? I’m running 275’s now in the rear and can’t seem to find if the Vredestein’s run the same width as the exclaims or if I should go with 265’s. Thanks for any insight.

In general, never mix and match tires between the front and rear. It will throw off the cars balance and handling. If the Generals in front are still good and want to save some cash, I would replace the rears with the same Generals. The next time the rears go, your original fronts will also need replacing at which time you can switch to all 4 Vredesteins.
The Vredesteins are great tires for the money btw (way better than the Generals) Loads of grip, quiet and very good in the rain.

I posted a review on Vredestiens a few weeks ago. If you do a search you can find it. I continue to find them to be outstanding tires. Also my review posted a tire test from a European car magazine which showed these tires to be superior to all others tested. I believe the General's were in the test also. Since my review I have driven in some of the heaviest rain I have ever experienced and in fact some of the heaviest Arizona has ever recorded and they were excellent. Rain performance was the only area I had been concerned about and I was amazed. I drove as fast as I dared and still could not get a hydroplane effect that I could detect.
I agree with the post above that you should not mix tires. What I did was buy a set of Vredestiens and sold my other tires used. At the end of the day I have a matching set for much less than anything comprable. Their is a dealer on Ebay out of CA that has great prices. |

thanks for the info guys. I was thinking not to mix and match tires as well and will probabley sell my front exclaims. For now I switched back to my stock wheels and RFT because of the winter storm hiting NC now. I will keep my eye out for a special on the Vredesteins and pick up a set then.
Does anyone know if the width of the 275/35/19 tires are the same as the UHP's? I just don't want to rub anymore than I do now. Thanks!

I'll see if I can dig up some pics. I currently have 275's and they fit flush on a 10" rim, no stretching what so ever.

I have the 275/30/19 on my rear vmr v715's with 9.5" width rims and really don't want to go any wider than the 10.9" that the general exclaim's are because of rubbing issues. I emaailed the manufacturer to see if the can give the the info on the 275's and the 265's.

Then again, if you are doing any sort of performance driving I have to ask why you would be on generals in the first place. dump 'em. |

I've read nothing but positive reviews on the Vreds. I almost got them but ended up going the all-season route since this car will still be a daily-driver for another 2 years.
