How to search POI's by name

I'm pretty new to the idrive nav and trying to figure out how to search for a POI by simply entering the name. I've looked just about everywhere but it seems like I have to enter a city, then scroll through a ton of categories and sub-categories...isn't it possible like my garmin to just type in "Mcdonald's" and have it pick up the nearest one?

I have a 2007 e92 335 with the 2009.1 dvd at the moment.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

with the older ones like ours 2008- you can't do poi, i think the newer ones can and thats about it, unless your able to retrofit the new ones for the old ones i don't think it's possible, but then it'd be pretty expensive i think

I thought it was possible to search for POI on the pre-LCI Idrive as long as you were in the appropriate subcategory?

You can pre-lci.
There is a sub menu in navigation, think its Information.
Then on Current Location
Choose catagory
Enter Name.

I've done it multiple times, don't remember off the top of my head. I'll take notes when i drive home.

I can get to the categories part, but nowhere will it allow me to manually enter a name.

I can't believe something so obvious and logical for a navigation system is missing from idrive

I think I heard at some point that the newest software update (pre LCI) adds POI functionality. But I'm not quite sure, it also really bothers me. If you can confirm this maybe I'll get around to bothering my dealership til they agree to update for free.

i know this is a old thread, but you can search for whatever specific name you want. say McD's for example.

go to restaurants, and type in McD's under name, select distance and do a search.
works on my 2007 disk.

if you still dont get it, ill snap a pic of what im talking about
