TPMS no warning light - i'm confused
ok, so after purchasing my 2009 e93 this past month, I now have winter tires on. for financial reasons, I went with non oem and purchased from my local OK Tire store a set of fastwheels r90a rims, with blizzak ws60 tires. I decided to go with non-runflats for 2 reasons: better snow traction, and price. I make several trips to northern ontario and decided to trade dry traction, for increased snow and ice traction.
Here's my confusion. I did not purchase any TPMS. I was totally prepared to stare at the TPMS warning light on my dash, however, I have no error or warning symbol. My dealer says I should have it, my 3rd party tire outfitter told me I don't need the valve mounted TPMS as it is located on the brake calipers. This contradicts everything i've read on this forum. So why don't have an error message on my dash? |

Actually, Canadian cars do have TPMS, but it is indirect. Most BMWs have a sensor that relays info to the car computer about tire pressure. In Canada we have indirect TPMS that uses the ABS sensor to check is one wheel is rotating faster or slower than the others.
I have non-RFT Nokians and have not seen the warning light come on yet this winter (2 months on new Nokians). On my old snow tires it used to come on and needed to be reset, then would stay off until I put my summers back on. I presume the new tires don't set it off because they are new and have the same diameter? |

ahhh.... thanks hubble bubble! How interesting that you (and my tire dealer at OK Tire) are more informed than the service rep at the dealership!!!! He actually tried to sell me the TPMS! And so did Gary from TireRack. So it seems that I may not be alone in this confusion. Thanks for the clarification.
