2500 winter cashback

All this is new to me as I've never purchased a new car before.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking to purchase a 2010 335ix sedan with:
-metallic paint
-dakota leather interior
-sport package
-cold winter package
MSRP $47,475
Invoice $43,700 (from edmunds.com)

A dealer quote me $42,300 to include the $2500 winter cashback (and financing with BMW).

1) Does the dealer make anything from the $2500 cashback or it's transparent to them?
2) Should I be negotiating as close to invoice before getting the $2500 cashback?

With ED, the dealer got the price to $40,900. This means I'm only saving additional $1,400 from the first price he quoted.
3) Shouldn't it be $2,960 savings as stated on the bmw website?

MSRP $42,300
ED MSRP $39,340
Savings $2,960

Thanks in advance.

2015 BMW M4  [9.00]
Deals vary be region, but in general this looks like a good deal ($1,100 over Invoice, plus the additional $2,500 BMW Finance cash back offer). This is a better deal than I got, but pricing tends be higher where I live (Dallas) and I still came in a few hundred better the Edmund's FMV for my car.

I got my 2010 E90 335i for $1,801.50 over invoice.
- MSRP: $54,332.84
- Invoice: $50,313.95
- Negotiated Price: $52,115.00

Negotiated price is before the $2,500 BMW Finance cash back offer and the BMW Car Club of America $500 rebate, so my final price before TT&L will be $49,115.

Specs for my E90 335i:
- Jet Black
- Oyster and Black Leather
- Light Burl Walnut Trim
- Sport Package
- Premium Package
- Automatic Transmission with Paddle Shifters
- Navigation
- Logic 7 Sound System
- iPod and USB Adaptor
- Heated Seats
- Comfort Access
- BMW Performance Power Kit ($2,372.50 MSRP for Port Install)
- BMW Performance Aluminum Pedals ($235.34 MSRP for Dealer Install)

I paid $750.00 over invoice back in May 2007 in Houston for my 328i and it was not a car on the dealers lot. I reckon you can do about the same if not better now.

Thanks for the info guys!
The negotiated price will vary depending on dealer so I've still got lots homework and legwork left to do.
To me the $2500 cashback is good reason to buy and the dealers all quote me numbers that include this cashback. When you look at it, it's still $1k over invoice before 2500 cashback is deducted.
As everyone else, I want to get the best price possible.
Dealers are using the cashback incentive to tell customers their number is below or close to invoice. The seems like a good deal but we pay the tax on it first before the cashback amount is deducted plus now have to finance with BMW.
I think this cashback just makes it easier on the dealers to come back to customers to as close to invoice price as possible. I read the forums that people are getting cars for$500 plus over invoice. I'm not sure this is possible with the current cashback program. Sigh.. I guess it all comes down to what each person is comfortable with paying for it and how much they willing to negotiate.

Happy Holidays!!

You should be able to get to at least 500 to 1000 over invoice BEFORE the cashback incentive. Some have even gotten right at invoice before cash back. I wouldnt accept any deal from a dealership that is already using the cashback bonus to get there price close to invoice.
