Factory paint versus third party paint

Is it possible to perfectly match paint (or at least 99%)from the factory versus a reputable paint shop? I was considering ordering an M tech front bumper for my BSM e92. I heard that BSM is a very difficult color to color match. If not possible, why? My car is an '09 so not much fading has occurred. Thanks.

The reason why is the flake in the paint. When it's sprayed it all has to be pointed in the same direction and the shop can't apply too much or the flake starts to dominate and changes the hue of the color. Basically the flake has to be applied in perfect synchrony with the existing paint when color matching.

To answer your question, any good, reputable paint shop should be able to do an excellent job matching. Not perfect, but you won't be able to tell a difference.

I went to BMW before and surprisingly they gave me a good deal. 480 for an Mtech front bumper to get painted. And it was oem paint, so it matches perfectly. It was less than other places were charging me surprisingly.

BMW dealerships still outsource their paint jobs to third party autobody shops though, right?

Yes, to BMW certified body shops.
