HELP - need advice... supposedgasket leak?
OK, this pertains to my FX35, but I'm looking for any insight you guys may have (especially Roadcone or any of the Bimmersport guys I guess?)
I'm trying to sell my FX35, and did a 160 point inspection at an Infiniti dealer. They said that both the rocker cover gaskets needed to be replaced, at a whopping price of $1300. I assume that this means there was a leak of some sort. By the way, that was about $550 in labour, and a whopping $750 for (drum roll, please) two ORIGINAL INFINITI gaskets. I took it to another Infiniti dealer (I have an extended warranty purchased with this 2nd dealer). They said I need to have the engine shampooed so it's nice and clean, then drive it for 1 week or 1000km, and then they can inspect the clean engine to see if there is indeed an oil leak, and whether a worn gasket (or something else) is causing it. Dealer 1 would obviously love to get an overpriced $1300 job, and Dealer 2 would obviously hate to deal with aftermarket insurance (I checked, they will pay them about $800 for the job), so I'm looking for some suggestions on what to do here.
