For a beginner - definitely a Flex XC 3401 and if you can't afford that, a Porter Cable.

As the others mentioned, both the Porter Cable 7424XP and the Flex XC3401VRG are great buffers to start off with. They are paint safe and effective at removing imperfections. For some more information explaining the differences between each type of buffer as well as how to properly polish the paint, check out our polishing guide.

After looking at all the info on the PC and FLex and the side by side comparo's I went with the Flex. I rather spend the extra money now then wish I had later.
