Need some help from the tri-state folks figuring out this clunking noise on my Msport

The noise is driving me insane and not want to drive this car. 2900 miles on a 50K+ car clunking....

Here's the thread with a video. I have FK silverline coils btw.

Hope you guys recognize this sound.

checked that this evening. Its all very tight. Endlinks did have a little play tho, so we will see where that goes...

Im going to pull the strut out of the car this week and see if there is any damage to the top hat that I can't see while its still in the car..

Craig,

did your clunk sound like my video?

I baby this car and only has 2900 miles on it along with the coils so I highly doubt it's the top hats causing the noise. Never tracked and the noise didn't come on gradually.....it just made a pop noise one day (it was freezing that day and the car was cold) and it started ever since. Strange thing is that when I jack up the car on one side to check out the endlinks they become quieter for awhile....as if the pressure on each side at a time shifts something making the noise almost go away. This is why i suspect it has to do with the endlinks.

Turns out my FK strut failed with only 2900 babied miles. See thread for videos.

Big shout out to Matt for taking care of me. I would have been out of alot of money if i brought my car to a shop trying to diagnose this issue. Now I just need SPP to get me back on the road asap.

Save those endlinks for me if it turns out to be my endlinks that are the problem...I will buy those off of you...How much did you pay for them?

I paid a little over 100 bucks because i had ECSTuning sent them with 2nd day delivery. I have the new ones on the car now but i think the old ones that we took off might be ok since the problem for me is the damn failed strut.

No pot holes bro. If i did i wouldn't have been scratching my head as to why i had the noise to begin with. Would have saved me alot of headache and money if i would have suspected the strut was the culprit from the get go.

I'm running the same coils you are. silverline X

I know the rears are koni's but are you sure the fronts are? Doesn't matter at this point because there's clearly something wrong with the driver side strut in my case.

The strut has failed internally. It didn't blow a seal or anything, the piston shaft is actually moving back and forth in its bore, causing the noise. First time I have ever seen something like this.

They use Koni inserts in the front, you can't see it but they have a stamp on the bottom that says Koni. Manufacturers don't mix up shock brands for coilovers...

Just got back from seeing Matt...Its indeed the endlinks that are bad...I have the first version endlinks which are the copper ones...I was told by Matt that these were prone to get loose because the nut didn't have what the new versions ones have which is a lock nut, and the joint are not well made compared to the new ones...I just bought the coilovers exactly a year ago on Jan 4 2009 and these are already gone to shit...I am going to call Eric on Monday to see what he can do for me...I just can't believe that FKs have all this problems with clunks and defective parts...I hope Eric can send me out a new pair of endlinks I have a $60k car that sounds like a POS...
