yet another winter tyre query:

HI

I have picked up a set of spare wheels identical to the originals on my car . These are (x4) :

Style 158
size 8 x17
offset ET34

The original summer tyres are 225/45 R17 91W Runflat all round (Continental something)

Question: please could someone confirm that the Vred Wintrack extremes in the same size will fit? Yes dumb I know but having read these helpful forums I realised I knew nowt about offsets and clearances etc.

I assume the answer is yes given its like-for-like all round but wanted to check before lashing out c. £700 for the tyres (planning on getting runflats again for the winter wheels)

cheers in advance

Mixing Runflats and non-runflats

I too am about to acquire a spare set of identical rims, but they are staggered - 255/40 8.5J 17inch on the rear and 225/45 8J 17inch front.

I'm currently on runflats as originally supplied.

Vredenstein don't appear to do Wintrac runflats in 255/40 17inch. Is it sensible to mix runflats front and non-runflats rear? If not, can you put 225/45 on a 8.5 rim?

Also, is it an insurance issue replacing runflats with non-runflats? Some tyre dealers seem to think it might invalidate your insurance...

Cheers

225 will be too stretched on a 8.5J rim. Why not get the Vred non runflats all round. Carry a compressor and a can of glue just in case. Job done

Insurance may be an issue. It would appear that nobody has any common sense in the insurance industry anymore.......
