Wheel nut torque

I'm swapping my 18" wheels over to some 17" wheels tomorrow. How tight should the lug nuts be set in Ft/Lbs or Nm? I can't find anything mentioned in the handbook other than take it to your dealer lol, cheers.

around 120NM or 90lb ft IIRC. cud be wrong thought. if not sum1 will correct me

75-80ft lbs is plenty.

Thanks guys. I've had a quick google and 75 - 80 ft lb seems to be the norm for a 17mm lug nut.

I always adjust my torque wrench to 87 ft-lb. Haven't lost a bolt yet.

BMW jack kit comes with a pre set torque wrench

set at 130nm

Thanks for the info, thats almost 96 lb/ft. They won't be coming off in a hurry that tight!

120NM is what BMW service told me.

Cheers guys. I fitted the 17" wheels today to rest the 18's until the summer comes. The steering is... well, a bit looser... but oh my is it comfy

It takes bumps in the road like the Vauxhall Astra and thats with runflats too. Should come in handy with the extra pot holes around left from the frost. They have practically brand new tyres all round so should give better grip than my others which have about 3.5mm remaining on the rears.

The question is now, should I cancel my order for the Vredestein Wintracs Xtremes as the snow/ice has gone (for now) or just get them done anway

Do you have winter tyres on your 17" wheels? If not, you'd be better to go ahead and get the Vredesteins. As you said yourself the snow /ice has gone for now. It would be a big gamble that it doesn't return before the end of March.

Nope they don't, they have practically brand new Bridgstones which the guy I bought them off had fitted by the BMW garage when he picked up his 335i SE and decided he wanted 18s. Hopefully should be able sell the rubber but I don't know if there is much demand for 17" summer rfts, especially this time of year.

I know you are right, today was pretty sunny which is a nice change. I'll get them done when they come in. I can't be ars*d spending 15 minutes getting the car on and off the driveway again if the weather turns

did you use copper grease, i took mine off the other week & they were rock solid stuck on, put the grease on for next time !!

There was some on the hub from when the dealer fitted the originals. Hopefully it will be enough. I'll heed you advise and put some one when it comes to swapping them back. Cheers!
