HPFP....

Looks like I'll be going in for a 3rd time in regards to my HPFP. But I was wondering what would happen if i kept driving the car while in limp mode and the revs were jumping around as i drove, even more so while i was idle at a stop light. Would it cause long term damage to the engine? The reason why i ask is because I did just that about 5miles on my way back home. Just wondering if something like this was to happen when if i was further away from home, if i would be able to get home or just call for a tow. (the engine would shutter and seem to shake if the revs got more than 2k.)
