I downloaded and started reading some of the materials from the engine thread about the details of the twin-turbo motor. Such cool stuff...but not many of my friends are as motor-headed as me. Kinda like the old joke... A rabbi sneaks away from the synagogue for a couple of hours between services on the afternoon of Yom Kippur to play 9 holes of golf. He tees up on the first hole, and hits an awful shot. A passing bird grabs the ball in mid-air, carries it to the green, and drops it. A squirrel runs over and hits the ball, knocking it into the cup. An angel is watching, and is exasperated. The angel says to the Lord, "He's playing golf on the most holy day of the year, and You give him a hole-in-one? Why would You do that??" The Lord smiles and says, "Who's he going to tell?"

Patriot arrived NY/NJ at 5:30 this morning; scheduled departure is 6:00 PM tonight. The WW web site doesn't yet report my car being unloaded. Dunno when they run the update process -- I doubt it's in realtime.

Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!
:rocks: Got a message from my sales guy at about 6:00 PM tonight. My car left the VPC at about 4:45 this afternoon. It should be here in Massachusetts tomorrow (Wednesday). Paperwork is two days behind, so with a little luck, they'll be ready to deliver the car Friday night.
Oh, and the installer finished some work on one of my bathrooms. This has been in process since October -- longer than the car. Getting both done in the same week may be more excitement than I can handle. Hmmm...maybe I'll buy an extra lottery ticket while things are going so well....

Congrats Mitch!
As for the other cars, the Patriot started unloading cars at the port of Charleston at 7:00 AM this morning. It's the final countdown. |

Saw it, sat in it, started it.
OMFG!! Can't wait to get it.
:rocks: I signed everything, put some more points on my BMW Platinum VISA account. (There's SMOKE coming off the card at this point -- deposit on 335i, winter wheels+tires for 335i, winter tires for M5, iPod for the 335i. I'm doing my share to keep the economy going, believe me!) I'll be taking delivery first thing Saturday morning. I took the Owner's Manual so that will give me something to read tomorrow night when I can't sleep.

Congrats on you guys already getting your cars! My car sailed over on The Patriot with you but I won't see her until February 2nd. I chose to take delivery at the Performance Center so my grueling wait goes on for a couple more weeks.
Once you get your cars, be sure to let us know how you like them! |

Years ago, when I got my first serious car (a 1982 Toyota Celica Supra in June, 1982), my cousin (himself a car nut) offered this wish: "Abuse it in the best of health." And that's what I wish for all of us.

Got our call!
The car is at the dealer - husband picks it up Friday morning. He'd be there today, but he's out of town, and there's no chance he'd let me pick it up. In fact, I'll be lucky if I get to drive it more than once in the entire time he has it. That's exactly how many times I drove his last two - the 2001 330i with Sport, and the 2003 330i ZHP.

Got it last Sat (1/20/07)!
Hi, all. I got the car last weekend, and haven't been on here too much 'cuz I'm too busy either driving it, or reading the Owner's Manual! I'll post pix eventually, but the ASA JH3 tires look fantastic on the car -- non-enthusiast friends have commented on how big the brakes are, which I love.
First impressions I'm VERY happy with the Adaptive Steering. I drove my M5 this morning for the first time since I got the E92, and it feels MUCH bigger and more ponderous. (But I still love it!) The iPod interface is S.................L.............O..............W. I have about 1,900 songs on mine, and any scan is totally unusable. The only viable way to use it is to keep a small number of playlists, and rotate songs in and out via my PC. The playlist I use most often has about 80 songs, and even that is prohibitively slow. Though the sound quality is excellent, I'm extremely disappointed in the integration. The Active Cruise Control is really amazing. I've limited my usage of it since I'm observing the break-in recommendations in the manual, but have been quite surprised at how well it works. I drove into Boston last night, and used it. At one point, someone cut in front of me and I was amazed at how vigorously it braked -- appropriately. In one situation, someone did a panic slow-down (maybe 60 to 30) a few cars in front of me. When the person in front of me did likewise, the ACC indicator lit up red, gonged, and something came up on the display between the speedo and tach. (I was too busy looking at the traffic to really study the icon, but I think it had a diagram similar to what's on the SMG shift lever in an ///M car. Not sure...) I also have started using the satellite radio. Some stations that I thought I'd love aren't that great, but I've found a few that I think I'll really enjoy. The comedy stations are gonna make me look really dumb, as I drive down the highway, alone in the car, laughing hysterically. Last night, I caught a couple of classics -- George Carlin's Hippy Dippy Weatherman and Bill Cosby's Noah. I also heard some more contemporary material: Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall (both from Blue Collar Comedy), and had a ball, in spite of being in bumper-to-bumper traffic. I also found a couple of stations that are very much like the smooth jazz station on the digital cable I have at home -- great background music. I'll probably use that a lot when I have others in the car.

Nice update! Glad to hear that one of us from the Patriot has received their car and already having fun. I still have one more week to wait before I'll see mine up in S.C.
Thanks for the scoop on the ipod integration. I've been considering it but for now I think I'll hold off and just use the aux port to see if that is good enough until BMW updates the unit or an improved solution is uncovered. Congrats again on the new car and look forward to seeing any pictures you are able to post. |
