Dropped off the 335i at the dealership...
I took my car in for long cranking issues. I figure its most likely the fuel pump, but last time I took it in for this, they told me they couldn't find anything wrong.
When I dropped off my car, I asked my SA to update my software to the most current version, but he said they won't do it unless something is wrong, because BMW says an unneeded update could screw things up. Anyone heard of this? It defies all logic. I hope I am not being lied to. |

BMW actually gets billed by the tech for updating DME. BMW North America only updates to reslove issues. So he is right in the since that they only update for problems but the logic of not doing so can cause more problems is certailny BS. The real reason is $.

In other software areans, fixes can mess up other things.
One large software maker I work with has "hotfixes" that will ruin earlier hotfixes, and will require you to re-install the earlier fixes. In addition, they have found that some hotfixes break other parts of the software and have come out with hotfixes for hotfixes. If it ain't broke, or someone isn't complaining loud, don't fix it. |

Update BS??
I guess when you have a customer standing in front of you saying -- hey my nav and bluetooth worked before i brought the car in -- WTF!!
what the hell did you guys do to my car ??? Could be one scenario some service advisors face after updating software ... maybe thats why the dealer is reluctant to apply any changes the cars I level ??? not the best answer but.... |

Well, I got a call from the dealership. Just like everyone within the sound of my voice knew, it was the HPFP that needed to be replaced. It only took them 2.5 days and 2 visits to figure out what I already knew.
It will be great when I don't have to tip-toe around the dealer, and can have the car serviced by who I want. |

I know the feeling. I just dropped of my car this morning (8:00 am) to update the software and it won't be ready until noon tomorrow.
Does it really take 8 hours to reprogram the cars?? |
