Dynojet SAE 5 Stock: 273.58 hp / 282.24 lb-ft aFe: 267.84 hp / 275.27 lb-ft Summary: 6hp / 7tq LOSS with aFe intake versus the stock air box All Dyno Runs (missing the 6th run file) Runs 1-2 are with the aFe intake. Runs 3-5 are with the stock air box. [u2b][/u2b] The loss in HP is such an embarrassment for AFE Engineers... They actually claim there is a 27HP gain with the installation of their product! The analysis behind the power loss is basically that despite the installation of a Heatshield, hot air from the engine bay is still being sucked up by the intake in large quantities. Proof is that someone took measures of temperature inside the intake with an ambient air temperature of 100F, and results were as follows: AFE : 140F Stock: 105F and sometimes even 101F So stock was 5F at worst case and sometimes even 1F close while AFE was 40F away which obviously partly demonstrates the loss of power and the higher efficiency of a closed air intake system. I think you should not get fooled by the sound of the intake and the look of it... Just stay stock or upgrade to something more reliably engineered. This is why I decided to stick to closed system intakes because they are sealed and they improve the cold air intake, which is a very important factor when it comes to turbocharged engines as cold air mixtures are very favorable because they increase the density of oxygen in the air swallowed by the intake and gives the turbochargers a stronger spin Gruppe M are an example of good intakes, but they are too expensive, priced at nearly $2500 for 335i and $3,200 for M3s! Bottom line, I'd advise you to stick to the DINAN Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake which is very similar to the GruppeM as far as looks are concerned but very effective for the cold air phenomena as Carbon Fiber apart from high stiffness and ductility, has very good sealing properties. Besides, DINAN is the only tuner recognized by BMW in North America, so it has a pretty good reputation in terms of Engineering Standards. It's priced at $999, which I think is pretty fair comparing to competitors and to the facts I mentioned above; and don't forget that you get to keep your warranty in your drawer Take a look at it : Hope that was helpful, and good luck! |

I'd say don't waste the money. Go in a different direction. I didn't notice any performance gains and it was impossible to put the stock airbox back bc the hoses shrunk lol.
