DS1 xeon headlight guts into halogen head lights
Here is my idea, don't laugh ...lol
I have a 06 325i with halogens with mtec HID kit. I just bought a pair of OEM D1S XENON PROJECTORS-HALOS ($130) but the housing is cracked really bad and tabs are broken. Can I take the guts out of the D1S Projectors and put them in the halogen housing? Has anyone tried this before? Are the connections going to be plug and play? Any help is appreciated because if i mess up, i won't have any headlights. If it all goes good, I won't blind people any more and I will have beautiful angel eyes ![]() Here is a pic of the lights and part number. ![]() ![]() ps: the lights should arrive at my house in about a week. ![]() |

I was thinking about the same thing. There are so many broken xenon lamp out there.
As far as taking the xenon guts and moving them to halogen housing I wanna say no, there is so much more stuff in xenon lights but you never know. I guess you have to be the first one. Take only one halogen light apart, like many said on this forum use oven. Then see if it looks the same or at least similar, if yes then take everything out. Remember you don't have to mount everything, f.e. leveling system you don't need it, ballast glue them, zipp tie them or else. Worst case scenario, find used halogen light on ebay, I saw one for like $65 and play with it. Another idea, if your plan would work, then you can pick euro halogen lights and mount the xenon guts inside!!! |

Well the dimensions of the halogen housing and xenon housing are not the same.
The width of the housing is a lot bigger on the xenon housing. Secondly, the halogen has a seperate cover for low beam and high beam where as the xenon has one big cover. In terms of doing a straight swap (plug and play style), it will not work. However, that does not mean it can't be done by modifying it (will require a lot of work) |

Keep in mind, you'll have to remove the outer lens if you plan on gutting out the lights.
Other than that, the projector headlights will work on your car if you reconfigure some of that wiring. Another member by the name of Andy has done this for quite a few people on here. |

bro it will be a tight fit.... the angels will have no spot for a bulb.. so first thing you will need to do is cut some holes in the bottom and cut out the cap area on the xenons. and retrofit them into the halogen light.. second im not sure if the halogen and xenon have the same 3 pc internal mounting spots.. but it is possible that they are the same..
issue 2 the outer mount for the projector by the turn sigal is different in the halogen and the xenon.. small issue but may bot be a problem is the whole lens is a different shape. as for the wiring you will need to retrofit the wiring and there is a way to correctly connect the wires to function appropriately. if you need info or some help pm me... i can give you some ideas

All I can say is FAIL
![]() The housing are completely different. Not even close. What a waste of moneys. Inside the xeon there are so many little pieces, now I know why the cost thousands of dollars. Here are some pics of the fail. This part is for the angel eyes. The part itself seems to be the same as halogens, but i don't think this fits either. I'm stuck with a left xeon headlight. with a half a penny size dent on the left side. and penny size crack on bottom. all tabs are there. If anyone wants to buy it, let me know lol |

Are the cracks only on the headlight cover?? If yes, here's an idea. Buy those cheap aftermarket replicas on ebay and just switch front of the headlight and amber corners. Do it on both lights.
Pros: - Fixed OEM headlights - Nice clear corners, euro look Cons: - It will dent your budget another $200 - Take some time to put everything together |

Second off anything is possible.. i would gladly take on the project..... i bet with a set of halogen housings and a set of broken xenons it is possible.. just got to put in some work... Remember man... Anything is possible... people told me pre lci e90 HID Angels were not possible... but i have a set at my house right now in testing phase... i have been told 100 times over my whole life that things are not possible so it is a win win... you try and they are right or you try and you make a masterpiece... either way you learn something more about you capabilities and your vehicle.

I only took apart one headlight. since the housing was broken, i kept the projector and tossed the rest. I still have one headlight that seems to have broken angel eyes and a small dent on glass. I guess i'm going to put them on ebay. I have no use for them now, only try to recover some of the money i wasted.
Anything is possible, but this was pretty close to impossible. I'm just gonna wait and trade it in for a 4 door 335i with xeons. Not the best solution, but sure as hell is going to work If anyone is interested in the broken xeon headlight let me know |
